“In the embrace of two worlds, the 2 Spirit soul finds strength in its duality, weaving ancient wisdom with boundless love and identity.”
— Creator

The term "2 Spirit" has roots in many Indigenous cultures across North America and represents an ancient and honoured gender role in many native societies.

It embodies individuals who might combine traits or fulfill roles traditionally associated with both men and women, and is seen as encompassing a wide range of gender and sexual diversity.

Saskatchewan, with its rich tapestry of Indigenous nations, has a deeply rooted history intertwined with 2 Spirit traditions. Before colonial influences, many Indigenous communities acknowledged and revered their 2 Spirit members, attributing to them unique roles in spiritual and community matters. The colonization and the spread of European religious beliefs, unfortunately, led to a suppression of 2 Spirit traditions and roles, along with broader Indigenous cultural practices.

In recent decades, there's been a resurgence and reclamation of the 2 Spirit identity in Saskatchewan. Indigenous communities, alongside allies, are working to reintegrate the understanding and acceptance of 2 Spirit individuals, reviving ancient traditions, and acknowledging their importance in Indigenous cultural and spiritual life.

Today, organizations and movements across Turtle Island are at the forefront of championing 2 Spirit rights, recognition, and celebration, aiming to meld ancient wisdom with contemporary understandings of gender and identity.

Our mission is deeply rooted in the intertwined threads of identity, history, and future aspirations of our community.

To honour the rich tapestry of our ancestors, we are dedicated to acknowledging, respecting, and celebrating the unique gifts of our 2 Spirit & Indigenous 2SLGBTQIA+ relatives. With every step we take on these lands, colonially recognized as “Saskatchewan,” our mission is to weave a narrative of unity, recognition, and pride, ensuring every voice is heard and every spirit is celebrated.

Inherent Rights & Belonging

We are devoted to exercising the inherent rights of the 2 Spirit people of Saskatchewan. Our commitment runs deep — to reinstate our unique roles and responsibilities and to ensure that every 2 Spirit individual finds a sense of belonging within our Nations, re-establishing our rightful place in the mosaic of Indigenous culture.

Our Sacred Pillars:

Knowledge Transfer

Tradition and wisdom have always flowed through the veins of our community. We aim to restore the sacred transfer of traditional knowledge between our revered Knowledge Carriers and the future generations of 2 Spirit individuals. This bridge between the past and the future ensures our traditions remain alive, respected, and cherished.

Fostering Good Relations

At our core is the desire to create a nurturing space where 2 Spirit individuals can thrive in good relations with one another. A haven where unity, respect, and understanding underpin every interaction, and where every voice, young and old, finds resonance.

Advocacy Against Oppression

The lands of Saskatchewan have witnessed histories of both celebration and sorrow. We are resolute in our advocacy to end all forms of oppression on these very lands upon which 2SAS operates, championing equality, justice, and dignity for all.
